Exciting times are ahead for Murchison Historical Society as the alterations and extension to the Heritage Centre are about to commence. After a tender process the contract has been awarded to Moretto Building who will start work in mid-February with a plan to complete the work by end of May.
The changes to the Heritage Centre will mean better access for those with disabilities, an improved kitchen area, more storage, a more inviting entrance and ‘shop front’ plus a multifunction room for meetings and education sessions. This room will be available for other local groups to use or for holding family reunions. Being situated adjacent to the Riverside Gardens, gatherings can take advantage of this outdoor area through double doors on the side of the building.
As access to the Heritage Centre will not be possible while the builders are working there, normal Saturday morning opening time will be suspended.
Our computer system will be housed off site so we can still attend to ongoing cataloguing and to any family history enquiries.
History Books for sale as listed on this web site will still be available (see Publications) by email: email@example.com.
Historical Society members are currently busy moving the contents of the building as required to prepare for the alterations.
The completed building project will provide a great community asset for the people of Murchison and district and further enhance the work of the Historical Society.
