This year marks 25 years since the forming of the Murchison and District Historical Society.
Warwick Finlay has been at the helm as President since that time. Warwick possesses an amazing store of local knowledge and is a skilled researcher and author of many articles and two local history books. He has made a very notable contribution in guiding the Society to the strong position it presently enjoys.
The Society is growing with the addition of keen new members and a variety of projects in progress. Recent improvements to the office with new desks, storage and shelving mean volunteers can work more efficiently and in greater comfort.
Our most recent new display features Gregory’s Hotel and includes seldom seen photographs and items from the Hotel. The Visitors Book used from 1908 – 1937 is a treasured recent acquisition. A photocopied version of the ledger allows visitors to leaf through the pages and read this intriguing record of the guests who stayed at the Hotel over the years.
Our next meeting is our 25th Annual General Meeting and will feature Guest Speakers Mary and Joe Vraca who will share their life story with us. The meeting is on Tuesday 30th March at 7:30pm at the Heritage Centre. Supper will include cutting of a cake to mark twenty five years of preservation, display and promotion of the local history by the Society.
